Since its founding in 1897, Chicago-based James McHugh Construction Co. has earned its reputation as a builder of landmark, one-of-a-kind structures. This success is attributed to the company’s long-standing commitment to creative construction solutions, innovation and a devotion to its staff.
By the 1920's, the company was established as a general contractor noted for its elaborate masonry work. As it grew with the city, McHugh developed its specialities: high-rise concrete construction and complex, large-scale projects for both private structures and public works.

The company was the first in Chicago to bring minorities into the ironworks' union and first to enter a joint venture with a minority contractor.
