In an effort to encourage higher exit rates in public schools, the Associated General Contractors of America has focused on the creation of a construction-focused charter school in Albuquerque, New Mexico to help at-risk students.  According to AGC President Ted Aadland (right), a speaker at last year's Builders Association Annual Meeting, these schools have higher student performance and exit rates than comparable public schools.

"For too long, we've told students that the only path to success lies in mastering a standardized test, instead of acquiring practical skills," Aadland said. "By giving students an opportunity to master skills like construction that will win them good pay and earn them rewarding careers, we're giving them another reason to work hard and another way to succeed."

Aadland said that students would benefit from the continued creation of construction-based schools across the nation. Read more of Aadland's comments on the AGC's website.
