State Capital Bill On Hold
The construction industry in Illinois may soon get some help from the state, but not before a period of legislative wrangling.
Illinois State Legislators have proposed a capital bill (House Bill 312) encompassing more than $13.5 billion in construction work to the Governor. A secondary capital bill, House Bill 313 (972 page document) - includes additional projects proposed by members of the House.
The main capital bill includes money for roads, transit, education and the environment, among other projects. The text to House Bill 313 is peppered with specific undertakings throughout the state, including a new Quad Cities campus for Western Illinois University, a new chemical sciences building for the University of Illinois-Chicago and renovations to Cole Hall at Northern Illinois University.
The amendments passed the Senate unanimously before going through the House, but are at the moment bottled up in parliamentary procedure. The Builders Association will keep members updated as legislation that could affect your business passes through the House and the Senate.
