Experts estimate that $140 billion of the $800 billion American Reinvestment and Recovery Act will benefit construction and infrastructure. Which projects will the stimulus impact in the Chicago area, and how will these developments affect your company?

The Economic Stimulus & Recovery Watch briefing April 22 - presented by McGraw-Hill Construction and the AGC of America - aimed to give attendees a clearer picture of how the stimulus money will be spent locally and give a financial outlook for the rest of 2009.

Organizations receiving funds from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act went into more detail about how the money would be spent, outlining plans being made by the Illinois Department of Transportation, the General Services Administration, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Chicago Housing Authority. IDOT Deputy Director Eric Harm pointed out that, due to a large number of shovel-ready projects, Illinois has received more money for highways and bridges than any other state.

The AGC's Legislative section includes looks at what the General Services Administration has planned for its stimulus money, in addition to Department of Education information and a state-by-state breakdown of the legislation's impact.

More information on this event will be available in a future issue of The Builder and on the website, and those interested in working on stimulus-funded projects can find out more at recovery.gov, fedbizopps.org and the AGC's stimulus site.
